Once I talked to MH42 as to how to feel when we are talking through the Internet, he replied as if he were talking to a screen not a human behind the screen. He said such symptoms are common among sufferers of neurological disorder called Autism, that is what he claimed he's been sufferred from. Of course I am not certain whether he's been sufferred from it just guessing through his reply. He must be sufferred from it behind the screen, but not here on the screen.
Of course I don't feel such alienation when I talk to anyone here, although I am talking to a guy behind the screen, not to a screen itself, such alienation might be typical among sufferers, but not me.
These are just a datum we use and other users use, but since the role the Internet or Slashdot occupies in our daily life has been drastically increasing, I've been feeling as if these were ourselves, not merely a part of ours. This is particulary true in other scene of our life. We don't need TV, newspaper, notebook, books, pens, eraser, radio, radio cassette, redio cassette taperecorder, CD player, money.. everything we need is just a computer.
Besides this is an advanced way as to how to communicate with others. When we talk to someone in their presence, we are apt to think of many things other than the things we ought to focus on. Here generally, we can talk to somebody apart from our social position, gender, preferences, etc.
We acquired the most convenient tool humans ever had.

>He must be sufferred from it behind the screen, but not here on the screen. This is a very interesting remark. In fact, i don't feel alienation when interacting with people i only know through the screen. It's only if I would want to analyse such interactions in a very logical manner, i would be forced to conclude that I can not be sure that i am communicating with another human being. However, the fact that this communication leads to understanding, that we have shared experiences or ideas etc, becomes the essence of a human being in as far as communication in language is concerned. This is in fact why we like to communicate with other people, not because of their physical presence, they have hair, teeth, mouths, bodies etc,Communication not through language but in other ways, for example sex, is different and cannot be transformed into information in this way, i think.Perhaps when computers first gain intelligence allowing them to hold a conversation, we will find them creepy and cold, unsympathetic to talk to, even though they may be interesting and knowledgeable. Then as they become able to share experience with us, are able to feel emotion, to love and despair, we will be able to talk to them...Humour can be very important here too.
