The problem with the United States, IS the United States. We have, thanks to Article I Section 10 of the Constitution, an economy that is Too Big to Succeed, when we really need to have 50 economies that are too small to fail.By preventing individual states from forming their own economy, from coining their own money, from protecting their own industry with tariffs and armies, most states end up physically owned by outsiders- mortgages held by interstate banks, international corporations owned thousands of acres of land, mining and energy companies being given sweetheart deals in Washington to tear down our mountains and dig up our natural resources, and for what? So that we can be taxed and pay usury until we're all in poverty? The federalist experiment has failed. The Too Big To Succeed financial industry has killed it. Time to try something new.

Hi, Ted..Seems to me you are preoccupied by the idea of Cascadia. I visited Cascadia twice. One time from crossing Rocky mountains, second time from California. Portland is one of my most favourite cities in the US, together with Baltimore. Geographically speaking Cascadia -Portlnd, Seattle, and Vancouver area is very different from the rest of the continent and right, very far from another Washington.Once King reigns and rules. From Magna Carta he reigns but not rule. Some year ago government rules and concerns, but now goverment rules yet not concern what its people think, do, etc. You are US citizen, I am Japanese national, but what does it mean anything? Nothing.

Hello, Johndiii..
I sent a couple of photos of cherry blossoms. Very blur. Forgive.. I'm going to move back to Fukuoka on 11th of April. I spent one year and three months in Kokura.
I left this hometown at age 20 and my homecoming was for the first time in 27 years.
I don't come back here any more.

Moving

I'm moving to Fukuoka soon. I got a job there. I spent a year and three months in Kokura. I was born here, but my hometown was too unfit to keep on living for many reasons.
As of 11th of April, I start a new life again.

Eiko Onoda's interview
About me
This 'journal of mercedo' is totally dedicated to one woman whom I met with in Trecca, Kyoto, Japan on the 23rd of December, 1986 for the first time and probably the last time in our life. We will never see one another again, but my journal entry will continue till I receive a reply from her that'll never be likely to occur. She came into pieces and shining in the sky, and not in the least existing in my mind. I can see her smiling at me. Don't worry, she had just got married to another guy. Born in Kokura, south-west Japan, 1961, I raised up as a most prosperous guy who'd always been located in second to none in all school I attended, now I started my trek to see her again till the end of time, waiting your reply. I published my first novel 'The Eve' in 1978, now those who noticed who I am, please keep secret. For the moment I would like to enjoy being anonymous. My trek continues...

Me; Did you go to church today?

Picture of 'Four Seas Watchtower'

Hi, Johndiii,

This is mercedo. I send you two pictures of cherry blossoms today I took near my lodgings.
Third one is the picture of famous Chinese restaurant ' Four Seas Watchtower' oldest Chinese restaurant in Nagasaki, which we took last October.
Fourth one is my snapshot my wife took in front of one of restaurants in China town in Nagasaki. We made a short trip to Nagasaki around that time.

I hope you enjoy. Sorry for blur quality of the pictures of cherry blossoms. I took them in my cell phone that is only available right now.

I'm going to move back to Fukuoka soon next month. In case you can't receive proper images please let me know.

Sincerely,

Irma (28/3/09 8:25 AM):
Its ok no problem..
Our time is one hour ahead. I went to bed at 10 PM, sorry...

Going out from the evening

I stayed in Manila for three months before so I know they like to go out after the sunset. We usually don't go out from the evening, especially in winter -weekends are special though..

I see. Twice a week, how many hours do you usually spare for them? I'm curious because we -Japanese don't have such customs.
Ok, please let me know your new site so that I can check up.

In and out

mercedo wrote today at 6:43 AM
I often feel 'in' and 'out' are a relative matter. For me Japan is a big asylum for those who need protection from outside the world. So I am 'outside the asylum'. As a matter of fact it's true that Japan forms a language island. As the inlets of Langerhans it produces insulin, which is probably bitter. Many people believe they live inside the asylum. A kind of feeling they live outside the asylum is strange, used to be often called 'estrangement'. I live inside the asylum to keep myself sane. Internet community is for me an asylum. 'Outside the asylum' is something that expresses some impossibility from its own. I guess autistic people might not equip this natural ventilation in their mind.I didn't know as to the novel. I found lots of entry other than his in search engine, so I thought the title is from someone else.

Mana Okuda

Yeah, not Eiko Onoda but Mana Okuda..

I met her about a year ago in a factory I was dispatched. She's 20 years old. High school graduate. Her ambition was obvious in her vivid eyes.

Recently I heard she's going to publish a new CD. I asked her about it. I paid 10 dollars in advance. I will be getting it by the end of next week according to her.

She's a keyboader. I am glad I encountered her in such an edge of town.
Yeah, do you keep an online diary?

On line or real life?

Our realm of encounter is very limited. Almost no possibility of developing intimate relations from on line friends. We can't tell whether we like him or her just from the impression in on line. We encounter girl or boy friend from our real life. But I feel always you are beside me. Our spiritual similarity makes me so. Do you keep blogs?

Irma:
she's gOod.,she's editing her paged on tagged
Me:
I quit my job today. I'm going to move soon.
Irma:
ohh where will you go?
Me:
I spent a year in Kokura, and I'm moving back to Fukuoka.
Usually new fiscal year starts in April.
Irma:
oh i see
anyway goodluck to you =)
Me:
I separated from a girlfriend. She's been in my steady for three years.
Irma:
ohh what happened?
Me:
She asked me to marry. I couldn't.
Irma:
why?
Me:
Marriage is a serious matter, which relates to economy.
Irma:
you mean to say you don't wanna get married?
that's your choice.
Me:
No, I don't. I don't think I have to marry someone. I like to go with a woman without marrying.
Irma:
ohh i see.,yeah that's your choice
Me:
But usually a woman quit going with me after they realised I have no intention to marry them. Then I need to find another one. My life for this two decade has been a repetition of vicious circle. I fed up already.
Irma:
yes because most woman nowadys would like to be married
meaning you are doing that for 20 yrs already?
1 decade =10 yrs isn't it?
you are doing it for 2 decades meaning you are doing it for 20 yrs already
Me:
Yeah, I'm 47 now. Since at age around 25.
Irma:
oh i see
if you want not to get married i think you have to find a white or an american lady ..because most of them are liberated
Me:
I usually went out with a woman for two or three years. Then separated. I repeated it for five or six times. Good suggestion. But all of my ex girlfriends hoped to marry me.
Irma:
you have to tell them first before you get into the relationship
so that from the very beginning of your relationship she knows that you will not marry her
maybe you didn't find yet the right woman for you
Are you a Philipina working in Taipei?

I've heard it recently argued against localization that the Constitution of the United States reserves the right to coin money and make treaties. Turns out that is only partially right, but in the next few days, I'm going to be writing a proposed Amendment to modify Article I, Section 8 to read, in it's first line, Congress and the State Legislatures, and to strike Section 9 entirely. The reason for this? USA, inc., like AIG and many of the large banks now taking TARP funds, has become Too Big to Succeed. And what do we do in this country when a monopoly becomes too big to succeed? The same thing we did with AT&T- Regionalize it.The grand experiment of free trade between states has failed. It's time to replace it with something that makes more sense.

Fellow slashdotter Mercedo archives his journals and comments from Slashdot and elsewhere on the web in several concurrent volumes, sorted by forum and nature of posting, on blogspot. You can reach every volume from his Blogger profile. These used to be numbered as I - X, but recently the classification has changed and there are now 12 named sections. Most volumes are subtitled 'A record of an Age'. Each seems to begin with an extract/translation/interpolation of mercedo's novel 'The Eve'. Many of them have the statement of mercedo's quest and dedication of his journal from his Slashdot profile (This 'Journal of mercedo' is totally dedicated to one woman whom I met with in Trecca, Kyoto, Japan on the 23rd of December, 1986 for the first time and probably the last time in our life[...]My trek continues...)
Trecca
'Early and late selection of Slashdot journals & archives'. One of several archives of mercedo's journal on slashdot.org. Trecca is the name of the coffee shop in Kyoto where mercedo saw the woman his journals are dedicated to.
Kokura
Kokura is mercedo's birthplace. These are further mirrors of slashdot journal entries. It's not obvious how these are divided into their several volumes..
Eiko [vicissitudes, ups & downs]
'This volume includes all comments made in the journals of other users and in mine' The archive of mercedo's comments, as opposed to journal entries, on slashdot.org
Sakura [cherry blossom]
A few extracts from slashdot journals. Starts with an exploration of the japanese word 'sakura' and the coincidence with the latin word 'sacra', root of 'sacred' and 'sacrament'.
Slado
Slado is the nickname of slashdot.jp - the japanese slashdot. This contains archived postings from that site. I am not sure if it also includes posts from other places - or if mercedo at one point stopped writing on slado (?) but in november 2005 the comment "I used to post all comments made in Slashdot Jp site here. Now this site is reserved to be used in future for writing or storing journals & comments" appears.
Eve
Two long pieces from 'The Eve' (?) and links to other journals. As stated most volumes start with what seems to be a piece from this novel. I don't know whether they are translations, summaries, retellings or direct extracts. I have not been able to find information about this novel that mercedo mentions in his profile text. The title nicely refers to either the first woman on earth, or the end of the day.
Onoda
This very useful volume gives links to mercedo's homepages on many of the different sites and communities where he has posted, including deviantArt, theDailyKos, groupehudson and of course slashdot, slashdot.jp and technocrat.net. Onoda is the name of a famous Japanese soldier who continued fighting guerrilla war on a Pacific island for decades after Japan's surrender, paranoid to the last that information about the war's end was a psychological trick by the enemy.
Mer Cedo
More archived journal entries from slashdot. These often are about mercedo personally, in particular including the hours he works each week. Some include the complete discussion.
Aristo
Mirror of journal entries from technocrat.net. As ever though there seems to be overlap - some comments from slashdot.org, also slashcode.com, perl.org [!] are included here? The play on words between aristo- and techno-crat is clear, but the does the word also refer to Aristotle? Remembering mercedo's sig ("--Ancient Greek Philosophers -18c Enlightenment Thinkers -Slashdotters") I interpret this as suggesting that mercedo identifies himself both in the tradition of Aristotle, and as the "raised up as a most prosperous guy" aristo.
Harbour
'Journals other than Slashdot &Technocrat.net'. Mercedo comments on multiple forum sites. Although as mentioned there is a lot of confusion between different categories here on the blogspot mirrors/archives, it seems that in general posts are not repeated or crossposted between different sites. Some of these sites, such as perl.org or slashcode.com are in general for discussion of a specific topic. My guess is that mercedo explores different sites as a way of getting perspective or a fresh start, and then often returns to slashdot.org for the bulk of his entries. Then each volume of the archive ends up getting these slashdot posts added to it.
Rose
Subtitled 'Corrosion Journals'. Includes a copy of a story submitted to kuro5hin. The most recent entry is a list of mercedo's fans from slashdot
Eikoon
A seemingly very recent volume containing only a couple of entries about working hours.
I have found mercedo to be one of the most interesting journallers on slashdot. Finding his own mirrors of his work gave me a new chance to appreciate and explore it. In particular, I think someone's classification of their own work can sometimes be as revealing as the words themselves, especially when they take this as seriously as mercedo seems to. I hope that if anyone else is interested they find this summary useful.
I have learned a lot about humanities, but not about technology. I must say I am not a technocrat. That doesn't matter, I want to write a journal so I am.mercedo

It's all over the economic blogs this morning Retail sales are stabilizing, we may be nearing the bottom of the start of the depression, at least as far as deflation is concerned. Time to take your money out of whatever investments it's in and invest in REAL stock- tangible durables. The prices you're going to see in the next couple of months on tangible durables will NOT be repeated in your adult lifetime- if you're under 10 years old you might stand a chance of seeing these prices, adjusted for inflation, again, depending on how bad Obama screws up. If he does as well as FDR did, though, with his New Deal, you won't see these prices again until at least 2079; so now's the time to buy, buy, buy.

Some say current recession is one time in hundred years. Yes, Black Monday was on the 19th of October, 1987, Black Tuesday was on the 29th of October, 1929 so if current recession were more hedious than Black Monday, it might be a recession one time in hundred years. I don't think so. And how about the war? War was a total devastation in both Europe and Asia, but not in the least in America. In Japan the worst depression was just after the war, neither 1929 nor 1987. I feel the limitation in the way Americans choose as to how to use the term 'once' in hundred years. This is one of the phrases Americanised, but not globalised.

Very philosophical photo as the design in the background suggests, is it the struggle or harmony of men and women? It is good the composition of neutral colours as green and purple. She is asking us to pull from one side strongly, either yin or yan whichever. Masterpiece that expresses her innermost movement. Thanks for finding my post here and as to ban, sorry for that.Panty is originally invented to protect and hide person's genital part. We cannot see directly someone's private part owing to a panty, so when we compare someone who doesn't wear a panty thus naked and someone who wears a panty we tend to believe that is more explicit than this. Yes, it's more explicit but often less erotic. There is an eroticism that is emphasised by hiding, and I think you know that.As to whether it's pornographic, the position of hands matters a lot. It is considered pornographic if some thought the model is trying to show or open her genitalia.Three years ago few was posting a woman with an explicit genitals. There was a nude though. But now we can see too many photos that show women's genitals. Women's or men's genitals itself is not pornographic. You will be welcomed again if you took someon's natural nude. Stick to it!

Pro-life

Eiko Onoda said...
For me, sealess garment of life means different. Individual life is just a phenomenon of life in general.Current prosperity of humans stands on tens of thousands of corpse. That said, I'm not saying individual life means little, but I'm opposed to the idea individual life means everything. In the case of fetus, they are still a part of their mother's body. Socially speaking their life starts after their birth, not conception. Many people live from their birth to his death. They are forgotten after they disappeared. Some genius live only posthumously though they are forgotten while they are alive. Real life might start after their death in secular reasons. This is a real pro-life.

The Secular Humanist Case for Seamless Garment of Life
As many of you know, I'm a strong supporter of the seamless garment of life. I came to this position through my religion, but now I see a totally secular, anti-eugenics argument for such a position.First, when does life begin? SG argument is at conception, but they don't tell you why. Genetics, however, DOES tell us why- for any bisexual species, the female egg and the male sperm have RNA only- half the chromosomes needed for the species. It's the second they come together, combine than RNA then start duplicating the resulting DNA, that the "blueprints" for that individual are created. If you're going to separate out individual lifespans at all, then conception is the logical choice.Second, even secular humanists believe that taking a human life is wrong in some instances; aside from the obvious duty of government to protect society (an exception even the Roman Catholic Church taught until the mid 1980s). I argue therefore that technology has accomplished today what was only a dream in previous centuries- the ability to construct, out of welded steel, an escape-proof cell with only a food slot in the top, a drain in the bottom, and a shower that always runs. With such a cell, a far more horrific "life sentence" awaits the person who endangers human life or society- one where the person can be kept on display and shown to school children as a deterrent, for far cheaper than the endless appeals that go with a death penalty verdict.Third, unjust war. War is sometimes a requirement- but even a secular humanist can see Augustine's logic of war of defense only. OK, maybe not the weaponry part- but certainly the "no revenge, no invasion" part. Fourth Euthanasia- there is value in all human life, even suffering human life can teach us compassion. There's a reason why many disabled people end up heroes in their own communities.Fifth, Eugenics- this being the real basis behind wanting to keep abortion legal, the hope that one day we will be able to filter children to be born who are "perfect" to some degree. This, to me, is one of those places where the knowledge of science outstrips the wisdom- where what is possible, and what should be, are different. Putting aside for the moment that we can't read the human genome enough to predict anything at all about how a fetus in the womb will turn out. Mutations, evolution teaches us, have value in helping the species survive. Do we really want to trust that natural method to imperfect human beings to judge who should, and who should not, survive?Sixth, Economics- they claim the world is already overpopulated. Well, in reality, we raised enough food to feed 7.5 billion people last year- but about 1/7th of that rotted away unable to find a buyer. This tells me that the final lynch pin shouldn't be killing off the next generation- it should be using what we've learned in computer science about resource allocation to make sure even the poorest societies can survive. And that includes the million children a year killed in the United States because "their parents can't take care of them".So there you have it- six completely secular reasons, without appeal to faith, to be pro-life; and not just Republican "protect human life between conception and natural birth" pro-life, but Catholic "protect human life from conception until natural death" pro-life.

The economic use of facebook
A huge part of my problem as an autistic is networking. I'm just not very good at it. Ok, I stink rotten eggs at it. But recently, a relative of an old girlfriend and an old classmate asked me to join facebook. I've been avoiding those social networking sites for ages- seems to me it's the preppy thin social veneer to a section of my life that is seriously odd and deep. And thus, I've avoided it as a waste of time.I shouldn't have. Facebook has enough of my past acquaintances on there to do what linkedin, plaxo, and classmates promised to do but failed to do- build me a social network easily and quickly, allowing me to spam my resume far and wide while rekindling old friendships. It occurs to me, that this would be an excellent way to take advantage of all of those multi-level marketing schemes that I fail at because I can't build networks.

Morning Headline, new Reitrement Investment Scheme
As I was reading my morning paper, this headline jumped off the front page at me: Outside Buyers Drawn to Detroit's Foreclosed Homes, which pointed out that nationwide, many foreclosed homes are on the market for less than $10,000; some for as little as $1.It occurs to me that even if these houses were investment properties, they had renters at one time. The practical Catholic Gentleman, or even the Knights of Columbus as a whole, could make money off of this in a very charitable way, by following the Habitat for Humanity model.Buy a house at foreclosure prices. Find the family who lived there last. Offer to sell it back to them at twice the foreclosure price, 0% interest, payments limited to 30% of income and adjustable based on job changes, in return for sweat equity of 460 hours a year (basically, Saturdays) to improve the property.Lather, rinse, repeat.....

Yes, all of you baby boomers out there are feeling the pain, my own parents included. The meltdown of the stock market after the crash of the financial industry has likely left your retirement in shambles at best. Who knew, after all that campaigning against Social Security, that you were going to need to depend upon it?Having said that, your pain doesn't matter in the long run. It's a symptom, not the problem. The problem is the systemic failure of the free market to control fraud. If you were invested in a non-market, religious based retirement system like the Knights of Columbus annuity, you'd find that you wouldn't have the losses that you do in the open market.Subsidarity and Solidarity- these are the watchwords of the Catholic Church's preferred economic system, and these are the watchwords of the Knights of Columbus in what they invest in. That is also where we should be headed. Manufacturing and service should be done at the lowest level of complexity possible, that's Subsidarity. Your immediate neighbor is your brother in the fight against international centralization- and you should stand in Solidarity with him. Only with these, can we rebuild our world. The time of centralized markets like the NYSE and the DJIA is over. The time of localization has come. Want a real retirement? Find a need in your local community and fill it- and you'll never need to retire.

Fraud and usury

That title is a triple joke, that only somebody with my unique background of learning to program on a TI-99/4A, having an autistic obsession about theology & history, and being Roman Catholic would understand. So here's a bit of an explanation: In TI-99/4A Basic, the plus sign was overloaded to be a logical or. In the middle ages when the Church was who granted the Sovereign the right to rule, teaching of Heresy threatened that right, and could not be tolerated within the system, so the Inquisition was born to tear heresy out of society. And finally, today, when power comes from worship of money, it has become terribly apparent since September 2008 that Fraud and Usury are heretical devices to a free and open market.Let me first define my terms with some examples:1. Selling something you don't personally own is a form of fraud, unless you're being paid an hourly wage to do it. Yes, this means both selling on commissions alone is fraud, as is short selling (because you're selling something you don't own yet).2. Selling something that you've lied about the quality of is fraud. This includes everything from advertising to selling CDS bundles made up of bad loans.3. Paying somebody else to lie for you is fraud- on both your part and the party who is lying for you (credit rating agencies, anybody?)4. Continuing to enforce a contract past the other party backing out of the contract is fraud (Time Share Industry?)5. Charging a person in debt payments of more than 30% of their income is usury, as is charging them an interest rate that they can never pay down the principle with only 30% of their income in payments.6. Loaning out or paying out more than what has been given you to loan out, is fraud. (Fractional Reserve Banking, Ponzi schemes, business run on credit instead of on profit).Got the picture yet? Fraud and Usury are methods by which the rich gain power over the poor. They are the gunshots in the pistols of class warfare. But worse than that, they tear at the fabric of the free market itself, reducing the ability of other people to consume in far larger amounts than it increases the ability of the con artist to consume. These are the subjects of wealth destruction. And I for one, call for a new Inquisition to rid our society of such evil elements. A televised Inquisition! Let's see the bankers put under the pendulum until their families pay back their victims! Let's see the short sellers who throw people out of work with their evil market manipulation beheaded with their heads put on pikes on the trading floors as a warning to others. My religion may normally forbid capital punishment- except in cases where all of society is in danger from this person continuing to live- so let's give them an out: If they confess, they can be sold into indentured servitude working at a fast food restaurant until they pay back their billions. But until this system can distinguish sin from virtue, can distinguish evil from good, and can punish evil, I see no reason to continue to support it. I have become an atheist- an atheist from Mammon.

Illusion

Posted by mercedo on March 6, 2009, 9:03 am, in reply to "Security/ War/ This could be the start"

Originally the concept of nation was obscure. There's a lot of small islands off the coast of Korean peninsula called Wa and later people immigrated to what we now know Japan archiperagoes. People who live there in ancient times had been eager to be a subject of Chinese empire rather than citizens of an independent sovereign state.

People who live Brittany peninsula of northern France immigrated to what we now know Great Britain island. Their consciousness of being the people of new country must have been obscure at the moment they arrived.

In the case of America, too. They must have been proud of being British nationals in the first place they arrived.

The concept of nation is neither absolute nor perpetual. Usually the notion of being a member of new nation comes as a thief, they rob old conscousness and give themselves for us instead.

Nation is illusion.

In my opinion snowfall at its marginal area is most beautiful on earth.
If you live between latitude 34 to 35 degrees area of the northern Georgia, you must have several -three or four snowfall days in a year. I live slightly below than latitude 34 degrees so we have a few -two or three snowfall days.
Tokyo is located at latitude 35.5 so they have more snowfall days, but anyway less than a week.
One of the cities located at latitude 33 usually doesn't have any snowfall.
The city located at latitude 37 always has trouble of heavy snowfall evey winter. For them snow is not an objective of nostalgia, but simply it's something that has them feel fear to nature.
Snow is a miracle humans ever had. Let's keep beautiful snow, the symmetric beauty of its crystal suggests it's one of the most beautiful gifts from heaven as such.
