This is a bit of a tangent, but I agree that from the perspective of the laws of nature, basing things around 6 and multiples of 6 makes a lot of sense and is highly practical for calculations.
At one point, when counting objects, I tried counting along the joints of my fingers from the index finger to the pinky—which adds up to exactly 12. I discovered that while it was incredibly efficient, it left my brain completely exhausted.
I once heard that modern typewriters/keyboards are intentionally designed with slightly inconvenient finger movements. I feel like the same applies to counting. Counting with just our 5 fingers allows the brain to rest adequately, so I immediately went back to doing that.
I’ve heard that the Indus Valley Civilization used a base-6 system for their calculations (similar to how we use dozens or time today). It makes me wonder if their system was too efficient, and if that somehow led to their ultimate outcome.
What do you think?
