Moving On

Moving On

I started participating in a 6-month programming training program co-operated by a local government and a university to bridge the gap until I land a job. It’s free, though I had to pay 6,000 yen for the course materials. However, I am absolutely stunned by how incredibly low the level is! They spend two hours on material that should take 10 minutes, and the teacher constantly makes mistakes, never once managing to give a proper explanation. I felt that cutting my losses was the only option here.

When I say ‘cutting my losses,’ I really want to tell them to give me back my 6,000 yen material fee and, above all, my precious time.

For instance, when you try something and it turns out to be no good, or you use something and find it completely impractical — in those moments, rather than dragging things out or getting deeper into a bad situation (which applies to human relationships as well), cutting ties quickly or throwing it away can also be defined as ‘cutting your losses’ (son-giri), right?
