Demonstrations in France

Demonstrations in France

Regarding demonstrations in France, I believe that if the riot police were to lead the march at the front of the demonstration, riots wouldn’t break out.

I don’t think it’s good for riot police to stand in opposition to the demonstrators. In Japan, police cheerleaders twirl batons at the very front of parades, followed by the police marching band and others. (I understand that parades and demonstrations are different.) Is it not possible to place the police at the front so they can walk together with the demonstrators?

I think concepts like de-escalation are excellent. The police are chosen from among the citizens to maintain public order; they are, so to speak, a community patrol. To say it once more, the sight of police confronting citizens looks wrong. The way it should naturally be is for the police to be inside the demonstration, preventing riots before they even happen.
