The Last Samurai

Last night I watched the movie The Last Samurai, for the first time. This movie is a fiction, but there's a model for this figure.
He was so fixed in old good days of samurai warrior period. He was chosen to be an Emperor's personal advisor though he refused to give away the sword -the symbol of samurai spirit.
Finally 500 hundred members of his troops were completely devastated by guns.
He was unable to adjust the new circumstances, though he knew that the system he clung to was to fade away. Yet he was unable to surrender to the new system.
I think he represents the spirit of Japanese people right now. They know their system is completely obsolete, but they can't change their way of living, thinking. It is not their fault, though, they ought to yield. It happens regardless of whether they are wrong or not.
