North Korea was unable to win the fotball game. We are uncertain whether it's related or not but in recent news, spontaneously North Korea related news start appearing in the headline of BBC and other US news agencies. They are something like North Korea suspended resuming 6 country talks indefinitely or it officially declares it hold nuclear weapons.
US Secretary of Defence, Mr Rumsfeld doubts it hold nukes though it is generally thought North Korea holds 3 to 10 or at least 1 or 2 nukes.
Unfortunately its nuclear capability works as a deterrent to start military action by US. Thus standstill emerges. Not to go war itself is a good thing. There's nothing better than the settlement by dialogue. We expect an effort for those concerned to resume 6 country talks sometime in the near future.

And it appears that, like you say, things are at a stand-still.
Well, they are at a stand-still as far as negotiations are concerned. I expect that North Korea will continue to build more warheads....
Not good. Not good at all.

Relationship between two countries are worst than ever.
It's hard to know in the map, though, there are many Korean Chinese who live deep inside northern China along with the border of North Korea. It was Korean Chinese who participated in at the midst of Korean War in 1950. They are historically very close to North Koreans and they are relatively rich and show sympathy to North Koreans.
So conflict with North Korea inevitably incurrs another conflict with China. I don't think Japan is fully ready to cope with that Asian Giant yet.
Apart from that, we are ready to deploy missile defence system by March, 2007. We are busy changing self defence force related law. And we are ready to impose economic sanctions.
Up to now none of which actually carried out.--Ancient Greek Philosophers -18c Enlightenment Thinkers -Slashdotters
