Eminent Domain
2005.07.02 1:54

Eminent domain is everywhere. Here in my city, especially roads, many private houses are forced to relocate somewhere. Or similor to Kelo v. New England, many private houses have been relocating somewhere in the name of redevelopment in front of station.
We all are in favour of general idea of construction of roads, and redevelopment of surrounding area of the station, but if my house were an objective of eminent domain, what would I feel?
37 years ago, to be an object of eminent domain was an object of our envy, since all those concerned were compensated unbelievably excellent alternatives- all were paid our taxes, they got two or three times more luxurious houses.
But now many households have their house, though it's much smaller than American standard. Were I to be victimised for the sake of what is called 'majority', might I be opposed to such an apparent infringement to private property right?
If they were compensated as what it used to take place here -compensated overwhelmingly in much larger alternatives, no one would complain about authority's decision.
