The Essense of Music
2005.07.03 1:35

I often listen to Chopin's - ballad, scherzo, sonata, nocturn, etude, ...I have many players' CD for one song, so that I can compare to each other which one is better at playing, thinking whose play is more suitable to the mood of original song.
Some are very well performed but otherrs not. But basically it is difficult to play Chopin's, and I noticed some even very well performed virtuoso would never be able to play the mood of original song Chopin composed.
Real music lies in his mind. He tried to express it by using notes and other signs. Performer tried to express it by playing the tune of piano, so real music lies deeper and deeper than what we now would be able to listen to through an instrument.
When we listen to the music we have to try to feel music hidden behind the tune of music expression performed by players, even greatest virtuoso would never be able to express. Therefore it is called the great music. The great music is not as easy as to be performed by even greatest virtuoso.
In the case of Chopins' especially, please keep it in your mind. We have to hear the 'silence' of music. We always listen to 'the' music, but we can only feel 'music' in our mind.
