This is a practice usually held by a married couple that can't have babies for their some functional failure rather the egg and semen themselves. So they practice artificial insemination first, which cost at least 100,000 dollars, the money that is not affordable easily by ordinary people.
Secondly they have to find a surrogate mother. If their mothers will be a surrogate mother of their child's child, it would cost nothing. Otherwise they will have to pay at least 10,000 dollars for the nourishing 10 months and labour to a surrogate mother.
In these cases, always a married couple ought to be richer than a surrogate mother.
Biologically speaking, yes, their child is perfectly their own child. No ethical, no regal question will be raised. But only economy matters, so if the poor people have to sell something other than their labour power, poor unmarried woman start selling thier labour for ten months and poor man start selling their organ for the same reason. If the society is affluent enough, such phenomenon will not occur. If we admit surrogate mother, transplantation from the living body, that only enlarges economic gap, but does not reduce the gap.
