Is Paris Burning?

Is Paris Burning?
[ #121204 ] Wednesday November 02, @12:35PM -2005

At the very end of European Theatre at the second World War, Hitler ordered to burn down the whole town of Paris before the Allied comes. Hitler asked to Speer 'Is Paris burning?' Then Interior Minister Speer told him that Paris was set fire and now burning.
Later Speer revealed to Hitler that he had one thing to tell him a lie which was Paris was burned down. Hitler said thanks and Paris was spared from the destruction.
Later at Nuremberg, Speer was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. I think this Speer's disobedience to Hitler's order was one of reasons. His life was spared.

Mercy. The world needs more of it. It appears to be a quality that has gone out of fashion.
The "neocons" and their misapplied "game theory" is largely to blame, but also the law of large numbers: when it's hard to conceive of individual participants, we apply faulty reasoning based upon external behaviour, never taking the time to look between the surface, or indeed at what we are doing to ourselves [salon.com].

When Napoleon was about to siege Moscow, Russian reacted by scorched-earth policy on their own capital. Napoleon was unable to gain anything and were forced to retreat from Moscow. Probably French Napoleon was unable to understand the act of Moscovites.
However, the deed of Moscovites were much better than what Hitler was trying to do. Hitler occupied Paris. Besides he tried to burn down the city. If someone is sane, that's something that he can't do even if he wants to. Art is eternal, his delirium was short.[ Parent ]
