Recently we've got many new reports from phermaceutical companies, research institutes, universities that the medicines once prescribed for other ailments to be found drastically effective to other diseases.
For example, antibiotic paramomycin, once used for intestinal parasites now for visceral leishmaniasis, this has been done by OneWorld Health. Statins, once used for correcting cholesterol, is now being started to cure for neurofibromatosis(NF1) that is genetic based learning disabilities, conducted by UCLA.
Another example. Viagra(sildenafil) is now found to be effective to the patients of pulmonary arterial hypertension, distributed by Pfizer.
We need a lot of fund to develop new medicines, but to find out other diseases that could be cureable by existing drugs are, obviously less costly although they need a lot of clinical trials.
It might be before soon for us to find an elixir for life. It came to be not imaginary dream.

because for all they can treat, nothing they do is beyond what normal healthy bodies can do already...truly to produce an elixer of life one would need something that goes beyond the repairs the body can do on it's own. nanobots who can repair nural gateways, that can replace and repair protien strands, a true elixir of life, would involve an army of robots, repairing your body 24/7 365, ordering custom protiens, and nutrients from a supply pack that is automatically refilled on demand... machines that can repair every disease, and even prevent natural death are at least a possibility.. while drugs, even herbs and vitamins can only extend human life to the limit of our natural life cycle... eventually the body is programmed to (A)bort (r)etry (f)ail with fail as the only functioning option... only nanoscale machines can reverse the aging process, by rebuilding the programming instructions to continue functioning as normal, while repairing every tissue that needs it to function as if youth were eternal.if modern technology continues evolving, natural death will be the fate of only the poor. Good medicines are very effective to the disease with no significant side effects, of course there's no medicines with no side effect, but in this respect, I must say Viagra and Tamiflu are good medicines. One particular medicine has been developed for the treatment of only targetted ailment usually, but as many researchers have been trying to find other diseases that are curable by the existing drugs, those drugs are apt to be prescribed more and more for many other different cases. Elixir of life might be just an impossible dream but certainly that will continually help extend our life expectancy.

The problems are in some countries, among those who are unable to buy drugs, good medicines are not always accessible. We have been reported there are some cases some developing countries have produced generic medicines. Medicines can never truly be an elixir of life, but good economy can be.[ Reply to This Parent ]

Viagra was initially developed to alleviate hypertension, but the initial test group found themselves with a heightened sex drive. Pfizer took that to the bank. [ Reply to This ]

Oh, I see, there are other drugs that are initially developed as sedutives, and later used alternately. This is also one of the signs we live in the age of stress. [ Reply to This Parent ]
