God was personified as a representation of those virtues. He was as good as a person, but not a person itself. In any novels, all characters are somehow a personification of good, evil, love, hate, etc. Personification is one of the most effective ways to persuade people. We don't normally think heroes of actual people. They only live in a world of fictions.
