Pre War Japan

Who was the mastermind behind the Manchurian Incident on the Japanese side, again?

Kanji Ishiwara—he seems to have been quite brilliant, but also rather eccentric, right?

He was pushed into the reserves, which is why he ultimately avoided being labeled a war criminal, correct?

There’s a story that he established a university in Manchuria.
Even though Ishiwara was an eccentric, he must have had some ardent supporters, right?

I’d like to know more about both of these points.

Hearing that he was at odds with Hideki Tojo reminds me of the leader of the Tōhōkai (Oriental Society).
