Istanbul

 Istanbul

Could you explain the circumstances that led to the attack on Constantinople—the most baffling episode of the Crusades?
Did no one at the time find it strange that they were attacking Constantinople?
For some reason, this reminds me of the Honno-ji Incident.
One commonality lies in the subsequent fates of the Oda and Akechi clans, as well as the rise of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
The conflict between Christian powers ultimately paved the way for Mehmed II to conquer Constantinople—a situation reminiscent of Hideyoshi’s "windfall" (or, in other words, a case of a third party reaping the benefits while others fought).
It is a historical irony of sorts: instead of reclaiming the Holy Land, they ended up surrendering a city that had stood for a thousand years.
