> not since 1865. Foundation of the United Staes dates back to 1776, which is older than that of modern France in 1789, of course much older than the restoration of Japan in 1868. US is a new country in history but it is indeed old among modern nations. I understand the union of 50 states is whatever the ideal of foundation was, much firmer than before in comparison to pre Civil War. Sovereignty becomes stronger in the case of country which is heading for continuous prosperity.
