The problem with the United States, IS the United States. We have, thanks to Article I Section 10 of the Constitution, an economy that is Too Big to Succeed, when we really need to have 50 economies that are too small to fail.By preventing individual states from forming their own economy, from coining their own money, from protecting their own industry with tariffs and armies, most states end up physically owned by outsiders- mortgages held by interstate banks, international corporations owned thousands of acres of land, mining and energy companies being given sweetheart deals in Washington to tear down our mountains and dig up our natural resources, and for what? So that we can be taxed and pay usury until we're all in poverty?The federalist experiment has failed. The Too Big To Succeed financial industry has killed it. Time to try something new.

Portland is one of my most favourite cities in the US, together with Baltimore. Geographically speaking Cascadia -Portlnd, Seattle, and Vancouver area is very different from the rest of the continent and right, very far from another Washington.Once King reigns and rules. From Magna Carta he reigns but not rule. Some year ago government rules and concerns, but now goverment rules yet not concern what its people think, do, etc. You are US citizen, I am Japanese national, but what does it mean anything? I sent a couple of photos of cherry blossoms. Very blur. Forgive.. I'm going to move back to Fukuoka on 11th of April. I spent one year and three months in Kokura.
I left this hometown at age 20 and my homecoming was for the first time in 27 years.
I don't come back here any more.

Moving

I'm moving to Fukuoka soon. I got a job there. I spent a year and three months in Kokura. I was born here, but my hometown was too unfit to keep on living for many reasons.

This is mercedo. I send you two pictures of cherry blossoms today I took near my lodgings.
Third one is the picture of famous Chinese restaurant ' Four Seas Watchtower' oldest Chinese restaurant in Nagasaki, which we took last October.
Fourth one is my snapshot my wife took in front of one of restaurants in China town in Nagasaki. We made a short trip to Nagasaki around that time.

I hope you enjoy. Sorry for blur quality of the pictures of cherry blossoms. I took them in my cell phone that is only available right now.

Going out from the evening

I stayed in Manila for three months before so I know they like to go out after the sunset. We usually don't go out from the evening, especially in winter -weekends are special though..

I see. Twice a week, how many hours do you usually spare for them? I'm curious because we -Japanese don't have such customs.

I often feel 'in' and 'out' are a relative matter. For me Japan is a big asylum for those who need protection from outside the world. So I am 'outside the asylum'. As a matter of fact it's true that Japan forms a language island.As the inlets of Langerhans it produces insulin, which is probably bitter. Many people believe they live inside the asylum. A kind of feeling they live outside the asylum is strange, used to be often called 'estrangement'. I live inside the asylum to keep myself sane. Internet community is for me an asylum. 'Outside the asylum' is something that expresses some impossibility from its own. I guess autistic people might not equip this natural ventilation in their mind.I didn't know as to the novel. I found lots of entry other than his in search engine, so I thought the title is from someone else.

Mana Okuda

I met her about a year ago in a factory I was dispatched. She's 20 years old. High school graduate. Her ambition was obvious in her vivid eyes.

Recently I heard she's going to publish a new CD. I asked her about it. I paid 10 dollars in advance. I will be getting it by the end of next week according to her.

Our realm of encounter is very limited. Almost no possibility of developing intimate relations from on line friends. We can't tell whether we like him or her just from the impression in on line. I've heard it recently argued against localization that the Constitution of the United States reserves the right to coin money and make treaties. Turns out that is only partially right, but in the next few days, I'm going to be writing a proposed Amendment to modify Article I, Section 8 to read, in it's first line, Congress and the State Legislatures, and to strike Section 9 entirely.The reason for this? USA, inc., like AIG and many of the large banks now taking TARP funds, has become Too Big to Succeed. And what do we do in this country when a monopoly becomes too big to succeed? The same thing we did with AT&T- Regionalize it.The grand experiment of free trade between states has failed. It's time to replace it with something that makes more sense.

I am not sure if it also includes posts from other places - or if mercedo at one point stopped writing on slado (?) but in november 2005 the comment "I used to post all comments made in Slashdot Jp site here. Now this site is reserved to be used in future for writing or storing journals & comments" appears.
Eve
Two long pieces from 'The Eve' (?) and links to other journals. As stated most volumes start with what seems to be a piece from this novel. I don't know whether they are translations, summaries, retellings or direct extracts. I have not been able to find information about this novel that mercedo mentions in his profile text. The title nicely refers to either the first woman on earth, or the end of the day.
Onoda
This very useful volume gives links to mercedo's homepages on many of the different sites and communities where he has posted, including deviantArt, theDailyKos, groupehudson and of course slashdot, slashdot.jp and technocrat.net. Onoda is the name of a famous Japanese soldier who continued fighting guerrilla war on a Pacific island for decades after Japan's surrender, paranoid to the last that information about the war's end was a psychological trick by the enemy.

Mirror of journal entries from technocrat.net. As ever though there seems to be overlap - some comments from slashdot.org, also slashcode.com, perl.org [!] are included here? The play on words between aristo- and techno-crat is clear, but the does the word also refer to Aristotle? Remembering mercedo's sig ("--Ancient Greek Philosophers -18c Enlightenment Thinkers -Slashdotters") I interpret this as suggesting that mercedo identifies himself both in the tradition of Aristotle, and as the "raised up as a most prosperous guy" aristo.

'Journals other than Slashdot &Technocrat.net'. Mercedo comments on multiple forum sites. Although as mentioned there is a lot of confusion between different categories here on the blogspot mirrors/archives, it seems that in general posts are not repeated or crossposted between different sites. Some of these sites, such as perl.org or slashcode.com are in general for discussion of a specific topic. My guess is that mercedo explores different sites as a way of getting perspective or a fresh start, and then often returns to slashdot.org for the bulk of his entries. Then each volume of the archive ends up getting these slashdot posts added to it.

I have found mercedo to be one of the most interesting journallers on slashdot. Finding his own mirrors of his work gave me a new chance to appreciate and explore it. In particular, I think someone's classification of their own work can sometimes be as revealing as the words themselves, especially when they take this as seriously as mercedo seems to. I hope that if anyone else is interested they find this summary useful.

It's all over the economic blogs this morning Retail sales are stabilizing, we may be nearing the bottom of the start of the depression, at least as far as deflation is concerned. Time to take your money out of whatever investments it's in and invest in REAL stock- tangible durables. The prices you're going to see in the next couple of months on tangible durables will NOT be repeated in your adult lifetime- if you're under 10 years old you might stand a chance of seeing these prices, adjusted for inflation, again, depending on how bad Obama screws up. If he does as well as FDR did, though, with his New Deal, you won't see these prices again until at least 2079; so now's the time to buy, buy, buy.

Yes, Black Monday was on the 19th of October, 1987, Black Tuesday was on the 29th of October, 1929 so if current recession were more hedious than Black Monday, it might be a recession one time in hundred years. I don't think so. And how about the war? War was a total devastation in both Europe and Asia, but not in the least in America. In Japan the worst depression was just after the war, neither 1929 nor 1987. I feel the limitation in the way Americans choose as to how to use the term 'once' in hundred years. This is one of the phrases Americanised, but not globalised.
